Working with our partners in road construction, State Departments of Transportation, and construction equipment manufacturers, we are actively deploying this technology to hundreds of work zones around the United States. iCone’s family of ConnectedTech™ products includes kits that fit virtually any item that is already used in a work zone including traffic cones, channelizing barrels, barricades, arrow boards, message boards, vehicles, signs, and flagging batons. Our kits can be built into new equipment at the time of manufacture as well as retroactively fit on existing work zone items.
iCone technology can let you know the location of anything in a work zone, right down to the crew member flagging traffic around the area. Our technology successfully allows the traveling public to know what lies ahead and give them the opportunity and time to change course.
State DOT’s across the United States are adopting specifications requiring road construction projects to be a smart work zone because of the proven success of digitally marking road work. iCone’s ConnectedTech™ products meet State DOT requirements and are being incorporated into the road construction bid documents on many state-funded highway projects. Contractors recognize the importance of increased safety in their work zones and are voluntarily incorporating smart work zone technology.
We are actively collaborating with major automobile manufacturers to bring work zone data directly into the dashboard of modern connected vehicles. As autonomous vehicle technology becomes a reality, automakers are aggressively pursuing advanced tech to alert drivers to hazards, eventually incorporating this information into the vehicle operating systems. iCone has been a major contributor in the early stages of development with automakers. Our technology’s ability to mark virtually all potential roadway anomalies and stream the real-time data directly to vehicles will enable them to take appropriate, timely action to avoid the hazards.

Our vision leads to a world where every road anomaly will show up on the dashboard of every vehicle, navigation system, and be known by those managing roadways. The data stream from iCone will be used by travelers to prevent car accidents, better manage navigation routes to avoid travel delays by re-routing around construction zones, and increase the overall safety and efficiency of travel on all public roadways. There will be a time when every work zone will be a smart work zone, maintenance vehicles and work trucks will be identified on navigation systems, and every flag person will be illuminated. iCone is pushing this reality of safer roadways forward.
We imagine and strive to create a world where every school crossing guard has an Internet of Roadwork™ stop paddle alerting drivers that children are crossing the street, every first responder vehicle racing to the scene of a tragedy will have clear lanes because vehicles knew they were coming before hearing sirens, and that motorists will be aware of slow-moving highway maintenance vehicles to avoid unwanted encounters.
Our technology can reach far beyond safety though. Long-haul trucking and local package delivery will become more adept as third-party logistics utilize technology to improve predictive route management. Ride-share companies will utilize it to improve service to customers and increase the efficiency of operations, eventually converting to driverless systems.
